Trust, Transformation and Tomorrow – The Science We Need for 2050: World Science Day at Gulmarg


SSM College of Engineering organized the World Science Day (WSD-2025) function on 12th November 2025 at the Convention Center, Gulmarg, Kashmir. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Trust, Transformation and Tomorrow – The Science We Need for 2050.”

On this occasion, eminent scientists and academicians from industry and academia participated, including Prof. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni & International Affairs, NIT Srinagar; Er. Farooq Fareed Nabi, Aeronautical Engineer/Space Scientist; Prof. M.S. Mir, Former Dean Academics, NIT Srinagar; Mr. G.N. Var, Former J&K President, Private School Association; and Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Principal, Degree College Baramulla and Prof. Gopalakrishnan, Professor, CIT Bangalore.

Shri F. A. Shah, Hon’ble MLA, Gulmarg, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The event was also graced by Shri Tariq Hussain, JKAS, Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority, as Guest of Honour. Ms. Haya Qazi from SSM College of Engineering also attended and coordinated the proceedings.

A large gathering of students from various degree colleges and higher secondary schools across different districts of Kashmir participated enthusiastically in the event. Prof. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni & International Affairs, NIT Srinagar, presented the keynote address, while Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo extended a warm welcome address to the participants.

The speakers emphasized the need for students to develop an innovative mindset and cultivate a scientific temper from an early stage so that their innovations can contribute meaningfully to society.

In his address, the Hon’ble MLA Gulmarg, the Chief Guest, laid emphasis on the adoption of the latest scientific methods and technologies to boost agriculture, horticulture, and other sectors. He highlighted that such progress can only be achieved through research and innovation, urging students to play a proactive role in shaping the future.

Ms. Haya Qazi from SSM College of Engineering proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, guests, and participants for making the event a grand success. Shri Tariq Hussain, JKAS, Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority, was especially appreciated for his presence and support.

The event concluded with a brief valedictory function to honor the distinguished guests and young innovators for their outstanding contributions.
