Kashmir Heritage: Seminar on “A Kaleidoscopic View of Kashmir’s Cultural History”

A one-day seminar titled “A Kaleidoscopic View of Kashmir’s Cultural History” was held by the Kashmir History Foundation in collaboration with SSM College of Engineering in the seminar hall of SSM College of Engineering, Pattan, on 29th August.
The function was inaugurated by Sunanda Ganju, Director of the Kashmir History Foundation, who, in her inaugural address, highlighted the importance of revisiting the historical and cultural perspectives of the community at large.
The welcome address was presented by Madam Dilafrose Qazi, , Chairperson, SSM College of Engineering. She welcomed all the dignitaries from the foundation and others present on the occasion and stressed the need to have such seminars in the future.
On this occasion, Professor Farooq Fayaz, a renowned historian, was the chief guest. The event was attended by Dr. Haroon Rashid, Dr. Samiullah from the Department of Environmental Science, University of Kashmir, Muzamil Qureshi, Founder of Live Bloom Foundation, Professor Muzaffar Bhat from the Department of Music, University of Kashmir, Khurshid Qadir, Board Member of the Kashmir History Foundation, and Sunanda Ganju, Director of the Kashmir History Foundation.
The seminar also aimed to uphold our cultural and historical values in society at large and among the student community in particular.
The environmental aspect of the seminar was presented by Dr. Samiullah, Department of Environmental Science, University of Kashmir, who presented facts and figures regarding the status of water bodies and came up with some suggestive measures to overcome environmental degradation.
Professor Dr Abdul Rashid lone of the University of Kashmir gave an in-depth historical perspective of the region, dating back to nearly 3,000 years.
The musical aspect of the seminar was presented by Professor Muzaffar Bhat, Department of Music, University of Kashmir, who gave an in-depth insight into the historical perspective of Kashmir music.
Students from IUST, Women’s College Nawakadal, Amar Singh College, Government College of Education, and Women’s College, M.A. Road, also participated in the event.
The seminar concluded with an inspiring message by Sunanda Ganjoo, who emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Kashmir’s rich cultural and historical heritage. She highlighted that understanding our past is essential for protecting our identity and passing our traditions on to future generations.
The seminar provided students with valuable insights into the history, culture, environment, and musical heritage of Kashmir. It also encouraged the student community to take an active role in preserving the region’s cultural values and environmental resources.
Overall, the seminar was an informative and meaningful initiative, bringing together scholars, educators, and students to understand, appreciate, and preserve the diverse cultural and historical heritage of Kashmir.
